Overwhelmingly disappointing! I was very excited to take my good friend for a special birthday treat - booking a spa pass and an afternoon tea, whilst my husband played a round of golf. It was definitely not the luxury experience I was anticipating! I should have known this as I had so many problems with communication in trying to book the package that we ended up driving up there! On a positive note, Rhiannon was amazing! The spa area and pool are small and underwhelming and the whole area is very hot with nowhere to cool down, nor could we find any water to drink to keep hydrated. We were not given any flip- flops , so had to walk bare foot. We hoped things would improve when we went for our afternoon tea, but alas no! Our tea stands were brought out, but we had to ask for plates to eat it on and for our drinks and tea - this all took over 20 minutes! As a person that regularly tries different places to have afternoon tea (at least 1 a month) , I can safely say this was the most disappointing one I have had in years! The sandwiches were dry and tasteless. Only 1 scone and limited jam. Only 3 pastries which were definitely not baked in house. The carrot cake being the worst, mine was dry and inedible. When you are paying £19.95 a person , I expect good quality food regardless of how much / little is served. Definitely did not match it's websites description! Not a hotel I will be rushing back to unless I become a golfer!

This hotel is really disappointing. Pool receptionist unfriendly and the pool itself crowded and dirty. Breakfast really disappointing. Definitely wouldn’t go back. We were refused dinner in an empty restaurant as they had another table arrive in half hour and the kitchen couldn’t handle it. Just woefully under-par.

We had an incredibly unpleasant experience at this so-called hotel. What was meant to be a relaxing birthday treat turned into a complete letdown. After travelling over two hours with high expectations, we were shocked at what greeted us. First and foremost, this is not a luxury hotel – it’s essentially a tired, grubby golf clubhouse with some guest rooms tacked on as an afterthought. The entire place feels like it’s aimed at middle-aged golfers looking for a lads’ weekend, not anyone seeking a clean, comfortable, or special stay. The decor is woefully dated, the carpets were filthy, the walls were scuffed and marked, and there was an overwhelming sense of damp throughout. Faulty wiring was also visible – not just unsightly but potentially unsafe. Everywhere we turned, something needed fixing or cleaning. It’s not an exaggeration to say it felt more like a glorified men’s changing room and sports bar than a hotel. The website paints a picture of elegance and modern comfort, which couldn’t be further from reality. We were so disappointed by the condition of the place that we didn’t feel comfortable staying the night and ended up driving all the way home. Not the birthday celebration we had in mind, and certainly not the experience we paid for. If you’re a golf enthusiast looking for somewhere to crash after a few drinks at the bar, maybe this will suit you. But if you’re expecting a luxury hotel as advertised – beware. This was an enormous letdown and a complete waste of time.

Hotel very neglected and pricey. All problems reported to Reception and Restuarant Manager Rob who tried sausage on 18 July and confirmed NOT GOOD. HE then replaced the whole tray. Reception services (Megan) were professional and polite at all times.

This was without doubt one of the worst hotels we have ever stayed in. There was zero value for money and not somewhere I would ever go back to or recommend to others. The whole hotel, including pool area, hotel room and bathroom and bar area were dirty. The towels we were given were stained,.as were out bed sheets. The rail on the pool stairs was broken and hanging off and there were empty wrappers and cups all over the pool area. The beds were some of the most uncomfortable I have slept in and the room was unbearably hot with no opening window. This is a golf club (average at best). The rooms feel like an add on and like you sleeping in the clubhouse. Was certainly not worth the money paid - it is tired, not clean and very uncomfortable.

Disappointed in the standard of service and accommodation. The hotel is in a beautiful location in the middle of a golf course, but it needs updating especially the bed- and bathrooms. The beds were very comfortable. The spa was very pleasant. The hotel looks far nicer and more luxurious on line than in reality. Breakfast o.k. but waiters not very friendly. Overpriced!

Complete lack of communication from this hotel meant that we have taken our business elsewhere for a forthcoming trip. Was interested in the 2 day spa package on the website - clicked on the ‘enquire’ button which took me to an email. I sent an email enquiring about dates but no one responded. Then phoned the hotel, went through to the spa and a very pleasant lady said I needed to speak to reception to enquire about making a reservation for the spa package. She told me the staff were in a meeting but she left a note on the front desk for them to ring me back. No one ever phoned me. We have now booked elsewhere for our trip as felt neglected by this hotel and as if my enquiry and potential business were not important.

We read a few of the prior reviews & we were in two minds. However we are so glad we decided to stay here. The two receptionists we encountered were lovely friendly helpful ladies. The restaurant food was very good. Do try the hanging kebab. We were quite impressed with the restaurant area as it has a lovely bar & great views across part of the golf course with lots of green trees, stunning outlook & very easy on the eye. Very relaxing. Breakfast is served here too. So you can wake up to wonderful views. The fact it’s a golf club does not detract from the place at all. There is lots of space & room for both members & guests. All the staff were polite helpful & friendly. They were on hand for anything you need. The rooms are very nice, they are not bang up to date. However they are clean comfortable & have everything you need. There is plenty of natural light in our room. The bathroom was beautifully tiled with a rain shower & a hand shower. It was a very peaceful place to stay. There is a swimming pool & a spa. Beautiful smelling products & also an on-site golf shop that has other bits & pieces to buy. Parking is close to the reception & bar area are on a level with the car park. The bedrooms are located below the main area & you get to them via a lift. It was a very nice place to stay & very well placed for time in Dartmouth & the surrounding area. I would not hesitate to stay again.
